Announcing their transition from a creative platform to a fully fledged booking agency, Nobody is Watching celebrated in the only way they know how: a night of silliness, serious selections, love and laundry!
With an insatiable love for the music scene that makes our city, eight years of live events can often blend into one when I try to recall specifics. It is probably on one hand that I can immediately list some of the core memories which have been scattered across my weekends, and Nobody is Washing is one of them.
This tale finds us down in the Waeshaus, a jewel in itself that has been slotted into Gloucester Road since 2015, becoming a vibrant staple amongst the high street and taking the title of the coolest Laundrette in town.
With washing machines sporting a variety of prints and patterns, signs illuminating stylish shades of neon, and an inviting aura throughout, it’s no surprise that the team behind NIW saw the potential, and after months of careful curation, the unassuming laundrette was transformed into an unforgettable night of basslines and bubbles.
Nobody is Watching have consistently been at the forefront of Bristol’s live music scene for a while now, pioneering the promotion of grassroots venues, local artists and niche events that breathe new life into the city’s culture. It’s this inexplicable talent for finding and delivering new flavours that have made NIW such a success, and has inadvertently allowed them to flow seamlessly from story-telling into the world of bookings.
With the highly anticipated launch of their booking agency, NIW of course celebrated in their own love language. The team expertly crafted an evening of silliness, perfectly balanced with some serious tunes spun by both their newly announced residents, Missy A and JPEG, amongst other friends of the collective.
Stepping through the doors of the Waeshaus, I felt as though I had stumbled into a spin cycle and landed in a universe where the whole spectrum of BPMs thrummed, and laser-laden dancefloors beautifully coexisted with the need to put a wash on. It was a seemingly effortless combination of whimsical themes and heavyweight selections, an example of what our community clearly wants more of.
The NIW family put their heart and soul into not just a rave, but an immersive experience; décor, drinks, dress up and Dot Cotton elevated the night to a whole new level, and painted an awe-inspiring picture of what's to come for the agency.
It’s no secret that honesty, intention and connection has been weaved throughout everything that Nobody is Watching has created so far, a truth that is heavily reflected by the sheer amount of love and energy consistently being reciprocated by supporters old and new. The laundrette rapidly reached its capacity, lit-up faces pouring in like detergent in a machine, as the night ahead unravelled into one of laughter and movement. It became an opportunity to wash away your troubles and leave with fresh, cotton-scented memories, new friendships and new-fangled ideas.
If you missed out on Nobody is Washing, or you just want to relive the magic at the Waeshaus - do not fear! This night was just the beginning of what the agency has to offer, and with the passion for a good party embellishing every move they make, the road ahead is going to be a long and prosperous one, with plenty more beautifully bizarre nights that put the people first.
You can still get your hands on a 100% Dot Cotton Waeshaus tee here if you missed out on the night, or just want to support!
